  4. of Time Inc.; after two years as U.S. Ambassador to Austria. A
  5. native of Vienna who fled the Nazi take over in 1938, Grunwald
  6. strengthened ties with friendly Austria while keeping President
  7. Kurt Waldheim at arm's length. The journalist-turned-envoy, wrote
  8. Vienna's daily Standard, will be missed "as the son whom we drove
  9. out and to whom we owe so much."
